mash handmade is a brick and mortar shoppe in kansas city specializing in handmade goods for the home. working with over 30 artists, some local, some not, we bring a unique and constantly changing collection of work under one roof. to be able to send our customers home not just with an object that is thoughtfully created and well crafted, but with a little nugget of information about where it came from and who made it is what makes our days.

mash was opened in the westport neighborhood of kansas city in 2009 by the mother/daughter team of karen tholen and amanda tholen long. when karen would visit amanda at the milwaukee institute of art and design in the late 90s and early 2000s, she always wondered aloud how to bring all of the delightful objects amanda’s classmates were making to kansas city. after a handful of years, lots of daydreaming, and loads of elbow grease, here we are, thrilled to call mash handmade home.
